Back in the 1600’s farmers used an awesome technique to keep their chickens calm and ready to lay eggs. They would tie pieces of wood to their beaks. The chickens would focus on that piece of wood and become very sedate. They also were able to get chickens to sit on each others eggs using this awesome technique. This became a very popular form of entertainment, and shows were performed throughout the countries. Next came Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer. He was from Switzerland and began researching ways to help very sick patients. He began using some of his own awesome techniques with his clients. These awesome techniques could involve all sorts of different music or humming sounds. He would also, bind patients together and have them stare intensely at each other. Another of his awesome techniques was to form a pyramid with his hands and have the patients look at it. He would then tell them they were feeling better, giving them direct suggestions. These suggestions were absorbed by their subconscious minds. Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer had an incredible recovery record.
Many other
doctors worked with some similar awesome techniques that would involve repetitive sounds, or motions. Many of these doctors were able to help cure patients or even perform surgery with the patients having no pain at all.
At the turn of the century, a boy was born and raised in a farming community. His name was Milton Erickson, and he would become the father of modern hypnotherapy. Milton Erickson became sick with polio when he was seventeen. As a result, he was paralyzed. He discovered an awesome technique while trying to walk again. He pictured in his mind, being able to run and play outside. With strong concentration, he was actually able to move the chair he was sitting on. He continued picturing himself learning each stage of walking, until he could walk again. This awesome technique is used today by many people, including athletes. By setting a goal and picture each step of accomplishing it, people can use this awesome technique.
